Judo Grand Slam 2019
We are in the pre-olympic year. In 2020, the Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo – and until then, many athletes will have to collect important qualification points and thus solve a ticket for Japan. So too for the Judoka, whose elite meets from 22 to 24 February to Judo Grand Slam in Dusseldorf.
The competitions take place at the ISS DOME, where else the Dusseldorf skating community (DEG) plays their home games. For the Grand Slam, the ice surface turns into a huge tatami (rice straw mat), in which up to three competitions are held in parallel. The tournament is attended by women and men, many of whom have titles such as Olympic, World or European champions. Among the German top athletes are Alexander Wieczerzak, Martyna Trajdos, Eduard Trippel, Theresa Stoll and Luise Malzahn. And of course Dominic Ressel (in the class up to 81 kg), who won a bronze medal in Düsseldorf last year as the best German.
